uSpark Shorts Filmmaking Competition

As we are fast approaching the one year anniversary of the Paralympic Games Accentuate is pleased to announce the legacy is continuing. Our award winning filmmaking project, uScreen, has an exciting opportunity for young people to say who has inspired them – uSpark Shorts Filmmaking Competition.

uSpark Shorts is just one of the exciting opportunities offered by the uScreen programme, which focuses on increasing accessibility to filmmaking through the promotion of free online filmmaking tools for young people. uScreen has been set up and is run by Screen South.

uScreen is looking for young filmmakers, aged 14 to 24, from across the UK, to tell stories about an inspirational person in their life who has ‘Sparked a Positive Shift’ and changed the way they think or behave.  uScreen is looking for original, honest, creative short films that simply tell the story of someone remarkable and special to the filmmaker.

15 films will be shortlisted and participants will be invited to a Grand Screening at Pinewood Studio.

There are three uSpark Shorts categories:

1. Films up to 1 minute

2. Films between 1-3 minutes long

3. Films between 3-5 minutes long

Awards will be given for each category and one overall winner will receive the Grand Award!

All films will be published on the award-winning uScreen website, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

We want to see short films about someone inspirational who has sparked a positive shift in a young person's attitude or behaviour and transformed their lives in some way.

uSpark Shorts is looking for simply made, honest stories, caputured on whatever film kit your school or young people can get their hands on easily and cheaply.

No experience of filmmaking is needed! We are happy to accept films made on mobiles too!

We want to hear stories, ideas and voices about someone who: INSPIRES, MOTIVATES, ENCOURAGES or is a POSITIVE INFLUENCE

The uScreen programme has already had a huge impact and won an international award for its innovation.  Film mentor and actor David Proud is amongst the supporters and commented:

“I am really excited to see how the ground breaking uScreen site will develop. It is essential that we get more disabled people visible and on the screen.”

uScreen is part of Accentuate. Accentuate seeks to change perceptions and offer opportunities to showcase the talents of Deaf and disabled people. Accentuate has been funded by Legacy Trust UK, creating a lasting impact from London 2012 by funding ideas and local talent to inspire creativity across the UK.
