Volunteer Opportunities London & South East - Are You Curious?

The History of Place delivery team are looking for volunteers with enquiring minds.  You could help us with a ground-breaking national project which will celebrate the lives of deaf & disabled people through history.  Come and join our Volunteer Research and Archive Group, carry out research in local and private archives as part of this Heritage Lottery Funded project.  Your discoveries will be shared through our website, films, games and exhibitions at M Shed, Museum of Liverpool and the V&A.   We welcome applications from deaf and disabled people.
Einstein once said, “I have no special talents, I am only passionately curious.”

There are eight locations to choose from or there is a home based option available. We are particularly keen to hear from people based in London and the South East:

  • Maison Dieu, Faversham, Kent/Canterbury Cathedral Archive/Local collections
  • Royal School for the Blind, Liverpool/Museum of Liverpool/Local Record Office/Local collections
  • Margate School for the Deaf/Local Record Office
  • Chiswick House Asylum, London/Wellcome Trust offices/Local Record Office
  • Langdon Down Museum of Learning Disability/London Metropolitan Archives
  • Bristol Record Office/Local collections
  • St Savours Church, Acton/Local community centre/London Metropolitan Archives
  • Grove Road, Nottinghamshire/Local collections/Private collection, Chesterfield
  • Desk research from home searching online catalogues/archives and other sources

If you have a bit of spare time and are interested in doing some detective work,  please call 01303 259777, email or visit to find out more and register.
