The Accentuate Programme consists of 15 projects which seek to offer new opportunities to promote the talent and skills of disabled people within the South East. We also hope to try to approach things a bit differently and by focussing on talent we aim to create a cultural shift in attitudes towards disability.
Each edition of Accentuate News will focus on one particular Accentuate project – or possibly two if there are very exciting things happening at the same time. This, we hope, will give you more detailed information throughout the duration of the programme, but in manageable bite-sized chunks. Our first featured project is:
This is an Accentuate project that falls under the Create, Compete Collaborate outcome. This is a groundbreaking ambition, which aims to ensure that: ?Every young person in the South East has the opportunity to participate in a project with another young person from a competitor country between now and 2012. "CCC will use the inspiration of the 2012 London Games to increase the opportunities for every young person in the region to engage with their peers, internationally, and leave a legacy of young people with broadened horizons, new skills, and enhanced global awareness and connectedness."
?Gaming is delivered by the team at Creative Junction, and seeks to develop an interactive, accessible, digital game that is based on the inspirational story of the Paralympics at Stoke Mandeville.
Chalfonts School in Buckinghamshire, a school with previous experience of developing interactive games and an on-going relationship with artists Rachel Gadsden and Stoke Mandeville Stadium, has been engaged as a delivery partner. The school’s Creative Agent, Vicky Hope-Walker is also involved in the Paralympic Region Accentuate project, providing an exciting synergy between the development of these projects.
The Gaming! project will be delivered as part of the Creative and Media diploma and will be a catalyst for collaboration between disabled and non-disabled young people. Industry experts will work alongside the young people in developing the project. The South East is particularly well placed in the sector with Nintendo, EA Games and Adobe all having a presence in the region.
