Accentuate

The Museum of Small Remains is a multi-sensory art installation, created by Orpheus as part of Campaign! It all began with the question, What’s Stopping You? Orpheus students posed this question to each other, their communities and beyond and so far they have collected over 350 responses from around the globe. These answers and subsequent questions have informed the creation of their installation The Museum of Small Remains, which was launched on the 29th March 2012.

The young artists saw the results of all their hard work, over just 10 weeks, really come together on the 29th March and the feelings of pride and achievement in what they had created as a team was obvious. The audience, which included friends, teachers, professional contacts from Surrey Arts and an ex-paralympian all had strong reactions to the installation feeling touched and moved by the story that reflects the many experiences of barriers and rejection that so many different people face within every day life.

Visitors to the museum got to experience 20 peep hole boxes and feely bags along with original music composed by the students telling the story of the building of a new civilization which is then torn apart by rejection and the inability to accept difference.

The next stage of the project is to share the installation with as many people as possible and to develop an accompanying workshop, which explores the question “what stops you?” The Museum of Small Remains will be touring throughout the summer, including featuring as part of the Guildford Olympic Torch stop.
